A BRIGHT SPOT IN EVERY CHILD’S DAY
WEEK TWO ARTIST SPOTLIGHTS
START YOUR WEEK WITH ART!
Welcome to week two of our new weekly artist video series – Arts Connection! We are on a mission to have our talented YA Teaching Artists continue to be a BRIGHT SPOT in every child’s day!
Every Monday we’ll be sharing our extraordinary teaching artists in action so children across the region can stay CONNECTED to and INSPIRED by the arts while learning remotely.
We encourage you to share these interactive video performances with the students, educators, and families in your school community.
Project Trio
Students discover the joys of classical and jazz music through exciting arrangements. By combining classical repertoire with elements of hip hop and pop, Project Trio’s innovative process blends eclectic musical elements into a universal language through the art of collaboration.
LEARNING GOALS
Students will:
☀️Be able to identify the individual sounds of the flute, the cello, and the bass
☀️Hear a trio of instruments working together in different combinations
☀️Hear the music of two classical composers, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky
Check out the STUDY GUIDE for Outside the Bachs for ways to enhance student learning.
Soul Steps
Soul Steps speaks the language of rhythm! This showcase of the African-American dance tradition known as stepping has deep roots in the migrant labor culture of South African gold mines. Students enjoy the high-energy step choreography performed by the ensemble along with interactive breakdowns of step moves that engage the audience in both the physicality and the history behind the dance.
LEARNING GOALS
Students will:
☀️Be introduced to the roots of step dancing
☀️Be exposed to the skill and technique involved in performing synchronized step movements
