Drumming Up a Healthier & Happier Brain and Body

Artist: Mary Knysh

Type: Workshops / Residencies

Program Availability: In-Person, Virtual

Description

This brain-based rhythm program uses the music ensemble as a metaphor for teaching students how healthy brains and bodies work together in harmony.  Through fun and interactive games, rhythms, and chants, students gain an understanding of the parts of a neuron, how neurons fire together and wire together, and how learning something new is creating new circuitry in the brain.  Various ensemble parts teach students about their downstairs and upstairs brain function and offer tools for recognizing and addressing times of stress through simple skills such as four square and gratitude breathing.  Students also learn that they need to make healthy choices for a high-functioning brain which include diet, exercise, sleep, and above all healthy relationships.  This engaging residency program offers an exciting opportunity for students to learn to understand and care for their greatest gift, their brain, and body!
