“Drum It Out!” is a percussion workshop designed to teach drumming as a coping tool for emotional release, wellness, and healthy self-expression. Students and teachers will learn techniques for drumming out emotions, creating “say-it play-it” rhythms composed of words related to prompts around the things they miss about life pre-pandemic, things they are grateful for, and hopes and intentions for the future. There are breathing techniques offered, reflective questions around feeling and emotions, and a permission to honor and acknowledge that things can be hard and we all need creative ways to “take out the (emotional) trash.” Drumming is being offered as a vehicle to take out some trash, build confidence, connect with others in a safe space, and have some fun in the process.
