The Boy Who Would Be Captain Hook

Artist: David Harrell

Type: Assembly Performances

David Harrell always wanted to be a part of playground games, but was only included when the other kids recognized that his prosthetic hook made him perfect for the part of Captain Hook in Peter Pan. Through perseverance, he showed he could be more than just the boy with one hand. David demonstrates that by not judging a book by its cover, everybody grows. This moving and humorous look at growing up without a right hand serves as an excellent vehicle for character development.

For a K-8 school, pair this program with A Little Potato and Hard to Peel for grades 3-8.

“David Harrell was the BEST assembly performer we have had at Hamilton in my 6 years at the school. The children were engaged, the teachers were delighted, and everyone in the audience was captivated by him. His message was powerful, and with such little props and no music I was shocked that he was as popular with the children as he was. If anyone is interested in a wonderful assembly this is the one for them!”
