Welcome to week four of our new weekly artist video series – Arts Connection! We are on a mission to have our talented YA Teaching Artists continue to be a BRIGHT SPOT in every child’s day!

Every Monday we’ll be sharing our extraordinary teaching artists in action so  children across the region can stay CONNECTED to and INSPIRED by the arts while learning remotely.

We encourage you to share these interactive video performances with the students, educators, and families in your school community.

TAHIRA

Folktale Fun

Clever spiders, signifying monkeys, and grinnin’ buzzards are just some of the intriguing characters in Folktale Fun. This interactive program is ideal for preschoolers and elementary school-aged children. Performing in her signature high-energy style, TAHIRA captivates young audiences while imparting universal values such as appreciating differences and being kind with your words. Family audiences around the country have remarked how inspiring, exciting, and entertaining TAHIRA’s folktales are.
LEARNING GOALS
Students will:
☀️Experience the art of storytelling.
☀️Understand how folktales are used as a tool to teach values.
☀️Be able to demonstrate how culture is expressed through folktales.

Diaspora West African Drum and Dance Traditions

Join Jeannine Osayande & Dunya Performing Arts Company as they explore some of the ways West African Diaspora cultural practices are used to affirm community, communicate values, enhance cultural sensitivity, and inspire meaningful dialogue.
LEARNING GOALS
Students will:
☀️Experience storytelling, dance, drum, and song from the West African Diaspora
☀️Understand how dance is used to communicate in different ways, and how dance and drumming can play an integral role in a community.
☀️Learn the lesson that every act of kindness is worthwhile.
